We found out we were pregnant on Friday, January 13th. Chase had been begging me for a week or two to take a pregnancy test. I really didn't think that I was pregnant, even though I had some signs, because it was the first time that we had actually not prevented. We were planning on trying for the first time on the cruise we took at the end of January, but we thought, "What the heck, what's one month sooner gonna change? Not very many people get pregnant their first try." Well, apparently we were wrong! We are absolutely thrilled that we are pregnant and we can't wait! We had decided to wait for kids until Chase was done with school. He'll be graduating on June 2nd and I'm due on September 10th, so hopefully this will give him enough time to find a job so that I can take a maternity leave from work. I plan on going back to work only at Dr Noorda's 2 days a week after the baby comes.
So when I took the pregnancy test (which I bought from the dollar store earlier in the week!), I set it on the counter. As the fluid moved up the test, I saw the control line appear so I immediately said, "No". Chase replied, "Yes". I insisted, "No" and he demanded "Yes". By this time, the test line read positive and Chase and I looked at each other with the same face. We smiled, hugged, and Chase asked, "What do we do now?"
I immediately called my mom, dad, and siblings, all of which were very, very excited for us. I spent the day with Stacey while Chase was at his internship. It was killing me not to tell her right away, but we set up a family dinner for that night so that we could tell everyone. Chase was trying to figure out how to put the picture of the positive pregnancy test up on Shauna's TV and couldn't get it, so I told him to just go tell everyone. After standing there for maybe 30 seconds and not being able to find a lull in the conversation, Chase just blurted out, "We're pregnant." Everyone stopped mid sentence and looked at him with question on their faces. They all asked, "Seriously?" We shook our heads yes and they shouted for joy! We called Melissa and told her. She had to stay home with sick Brynn. Then Shauna took me into the office to get me signed up for all the baby tracking emails. It was so fun to finally have my turn with all the baby stuff!

We went on a vacation on the 17th to Florida. I was feeling great at this point, no morning sickness or motion sickness at all. We went to Sea World, Universal Studios, and Busch Gardens, where we rode roller coasters and had a great time. I was a little worried about riding all the rides while I was pregnant, but we were pretty sure it was ok. We got on our cruise ship on the 22nd and that's when the sickness began. It was the worst while we were on the ship and especially when we were around food. Smells were really starting to get to me and of course, my sense of smell was magnified. I think walking into the dining room was the worst part of every day. Chase did his best to help me feel comfortable and keep me from tossing my cookies, but I was pretty miserable. Each time we got off the ship, I did feel a little bit better. We were bummed that we had to change some of our plans because I could no longer go scuba diving, but we decided it was worth it. So we made it through the cruise and went to the alligator farm, which was a lot of fun. Monday, we just stayed in the hotel room all day because I was feeling so sick. The flight home was almost torture. The motion was just destroying me. Luckily, I have a great husband who did all the comforting he could to make me feel better.
I've been pretty sick since that time. I've had moderate nausea all day long, except between the hours of 3 and 7pm, which is convenient because that is the time that I get off work, go to crossfit, and eat dinner. After that, I'm sick again. It was really starting to wear on me pretty bad. I was just hoping it wouldn't last the entire pregnancy because I know that happens for some women. Monday morning, when I got to work and Dr. Baird asked how I was feeling, I noticed that I was feeling a little bit better than usual. Same thing yesterday. Maybe its starting to subside?? I sure hope so.
A week and a half after we got home from Florida, I got back on a plane and flew to DC for Bethany's wedding. I flew out on Friday morning and was picked up at the airport in DC that night by my family. We went to the rehearsal dinner and then bowling. Saturday, we woke up early to get our hair done and got ready for the wedding later that afternoon. It was a beautiful wedding and Bethany looked amazing. We had a lot of fun that night dancing at the reception. Sunday morning, we had an amazing brunch at James' parents house and watched them open gifts. We took a small tour of Washington, D.C. and then all got on a plane back to Denver together where my family split off to go to Phoenix. We really had so much fun. My Dad's sisters, brother, and cousin all drove in from Ohio for the wedding also. We haven't seen them since my high school graduation 10 years ago, so it was great to see them.
